Microsoft and Nokia Announce Social Phones

Diversification is something that dimeRocker strives to achieve. That’s why our service helps to deploy games to multiple platforms, which isn’t a bad idea considering the news that Microsoft and Nokia will be jumping into the social platform on their next-gen phones.
Earlier in the week you might have seen that Microsoft is announcing a pair of social media phones to compete in the world that Apple created with their iPhone + Game Center line up. The series is called “KIN” and is currently planned with two platforms aptly named the KIN one and the KIN two. The idea behind the phones is to market directly to fans of social networking. The promotion for the phones even goes so far to feature a series of commercials revolving around a 20-something girl who travels around the globe to meet her group of social site “friends” and find out how close they really are. An interesting premise for a phone that one again lets us know social gaming/networking is here to stay.
Not only is Microsoft jumping on board though, Nokia is moving in to the realm as well and both are looking for developers to start aiming for their new platform. Today Nokia announced three new phones with the same focus as Microsoft: capitalizing on the social network aspects of communication. The C3, C6, and E5 were all announced just one day after Microsoft’s announcement of the KIN series of phones and also feature easy access to social networking, and a new platform for developers to unleash their creativity upon.
You can find out more details about the Microsoft line of KIN phones here, and the Nokia series of social phones here. In the meantime it’s a warm and fuzzy thought to know that the big players get it now, and we’ll have plenty of places to push content, like video games, to.
