Playdom Purchases Developer Three Melons

A recent article over at Gamasutra featured the exploits of social gaming company Playdom. Playdom has been making big moves in the world of social gaming over the last few months. Starting back in November when they received $43 million in Series A funding, they have funded “aggressive plans to expand social gaming.” Part of that plan seems to be expansion through other development companies.
Just recently they have been making strides with development studios in Argentina. Playdom has invested $5 million into Buenos Aires-based Metrogames previously, and has acquired development house Three Melons. Anyone not familiar with the studio might have heard of their soccer-based Facebook game “Bola!” which has 145,000 daily active users.
"We are thrilled to join forces with Playdom," said Mariano Suarez Battan, the CEO of Three Melons. "The company has positioned itself for success in 2010 and we look forward to working as a team to deliver on that goal."
A thought that was shared by the head over Playdom, CEO John Pleasants: "We admire the Three Melons team and welcome their quality talent to the Playdom family.”
While "Bola!" may have been Three Melon’s first original title the developer says they have created over 50 games as a third-party. Three Melon is known for their early adoption of Unity 3D, but there is thought that Playdom may have bought them out due to a proprietary internal tech.
